Welcome to Captiva Fire Control District
The Captiva Island Fire Control District is a combination professional and volunteer fire district. With a full time paid staff of eleven personnel as well as four volunteer members, we proudly serve our community. The Captiva Island Fire Control District provides services including fire suppression, emergency medical services (advanced life support), fire inspections, public education and marine rescues.
The Captiva Island Fire Control District is an independent taxing district that is part of un-incorporated Lee County. Three Fire Commissioners who are elected by the community govern the District.
Founded in 1955 as a full volunteer department, the department recruited members of the local community to provide fire protection. The department began with a staff of three full time employees who oversaw the numerous volunteers and ensured professional care to island residents and visitors twenty-four hours a day and three hundred sixty-five days a year. The department has since transitioned into three 48-hour shifts consisting of two firefighters and one Lieutenant per shift. The Captiva Island Fire Control District is continuing to grow to provide the highest quality of service to the island residents and visitors.
